The Knolls is a not-for-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community (also known as a CCRC or Life Plan Community), which means we provide a complete continuum of health care services to residents through the well-respected Bethel organization, including independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing.

After making the decision to move to a Continuing Care Retirement Community, residents receive and sign a residency agreement, which outlines the conditions on which health care services are available to them. There are several types of agreements offered by CCRCs, including Life Care, Modified and Fee-for-Service, giving you the option to choose the one that works best for you.

The contract type you choose may depend on the community you select, your personal finances, your health care insurance needs, and several other factors. At The Knolls, we offer both Fee-for-Service and Modified Fee-for-Service contracts. In this blog, we’ll focus on the Fee-for-Service contract. With this type of contract, you’ll have access to all levels of care through the Bethel healthcare network, while only paying for the services you receive, when you need them.

A Fee-for-Service contract can also mean a lower initial entry fee. Unlike the Life Care contract where you pay for future services upon your entry to the community, the Fee-for-Service contract allows you to save your hard-earned assets and not pay up front for services you may never need. The Fee-For-Service contract option can be ideal for people who also have existing long term care policies.

Also, because other CCRC contract models charge you for future care services upon entry to the community, their entrance fees often include a large cost for those services. This will not happen at The Knolls since we do not offer the Life Care contract option, thus ensuring your initial entrance fee will be much lower.

Should the need ever arise for you to take advantage of our excellent health care services, with the Fee-for-Service contract, you will be able to access them immediately, and only pay for the services that you use. The security in knowing that you’ll be receiving the best possible care from a highly rated 5-star health care center located within the walls of the community is priceless.

You’ll give yourself, and your family, peace of mind in knowing that you have everything you need to live your best retirement possible.
